Magixx Becomes Spotify’s Fresh Find African Artist For August 2022

Fast rising Afrobeats singer Magixx has been named as the Fresh Finds Africa artist for August 2022 on Spotify.

The Spotify Fresh Finds Playlist gives up-and-coming musicians the chance to shine and make their music more widely available. The most recent winner of this program, which aims to develop a platform for up-and-coming musicians to expand their fan base, will be Magixx.

Magixx, real name Adelabu Adewunmi Alexander, got his start in music as a young child in his church choir. The University of Lagos graduate, who is 25 years old, has developed his abilities over the years and has become one of the distinctive new voices in Afrobeats.

With the help of his breakout single “Love Don’t Cost A Dime” from his self-titled debut EP, Magixx found widespread recognition. He has since shown his talent on Mavin’s “Overload” and, most recently, on his follow-up EP, “Atom.”

Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s head of music for sub-Saharan Africa, commented on the news:

The Spotify music team selects a new artist for the Fresh Finds Africa initiative each month. It is a crucial component of Spotify’s ongoing initiatives to assist the African music sector by way of initiatives like EQUAL and RADAR.
